System Technical Summary

  • Release Containers:

Each Release container is prefabricated starting at 150 kWp and can be deployed quickly at site.

  • Solar Plant Size:

We estimate 1.5 ha per MWp installed. A rectangular plot is best suited but distance between rows and row length can be adjusted with our modular solution.

  • DC Capacity:

Is the DC output of the installed solar modules under standard testing conditions. Our containers each include string inverters totalling 132 kW AC output. We can include transformers to suited site voltage level as part of our interconnection scope.

The indicative solar sizing is such that solar energy is not wasted or exported to the grid, with sufficient reserves to adapt to intermittent cloud cover, and will vary for a specific project application.

  • Solar Yield:

The solar yield is the energy output at point of connection at your location. It is a good metric to compare solar installations of various types and sizes across different locations. Our solution tracks the suns path throughout the day and uses bifacial modules utilising reflected light from the ground, giving a higher yield from the available solar resource. As a rule of thumb 1700 MWh/MWp is good, 2000 is great, and 2300 is amazing. Solar with even a moderate yield can be competitive with thermal generation and grid power.

  • Solar Energy Production:

The indicative total yearly energy provided by this system sizing. In our sizing we attempt to reduce the amount of solar energy that cannot be supplied directly to the load and is curtailed. Depending on generator setup and consumption variations we may have to reduce the system sizing slightly, whereas a high alternative cost compared to solar will allow larger sizing and significantly more solar savings even with some excess energy on days with reduced consumption.

  • Battery:

The indicative battery sizing is an example of the required energy storage to increase the solar sizing by 50% to increase renewable penetration of the power supply without wasted solar production. Optimal sizing for lowest overall energy cost will depend on existing power costs, accurate hourly consumption and solar production data, as well as battery losses and long-term degradation.

  • About This Tool

The solar yield data provided in this tool are provided by the PVGIS web service from the European Commission Joint Research Centre (

Scatec Solar has extensive experience in producing accurate yield estimates for utility scale projects which are validated on an ongoing basis by over 2 GW of plants in operation. PVGIS output has been compared to a database of our existing yield studies and loss values adjusted such that we expect the web tool yield figures to be within 5% of our internal methodology for most locations. These indicative figures will be subject to change upon further investigation into site and project details.
